Refitting the original counter Preston Marina, 2003
Sceptre's counter stern was modified by Eric Maxwell in the late 1960's, probably as much to update her looks to the latest fashion as for any improvement in her performance.
In 2002, the SPS resolved to find the counter and refit it, to restore Sceptre to her original lines: the counter was rumoured to have been kept, but its location was unknown. They put an advertisement in the December 2002 issue of Classic Boat, but before the magazine had even reached the newsstands, word had got out and several people had already been in touch with useful information - see below for two of those letters.
The counter was duly retrieved from the Ballathie House Hotel, and refitted the following Spring.
